A note from Randy

First and foremost, thank you. Genuinely. It means the world to us that you chose Deluxe Detail to protect your vehicle, and I want you to know that we do not take that trust lightly.

Seven years ago, I started this company with one simple goal: solve the problem of keeping vehicles clean and protected. That idea has grown into something I am incredibly proud of, a shop that installs Paint Protection Film, Ceramic Coatings, and Ceramic Window Tint to preserve your vehicle, whether it is brand new off the lot or a used vehicle you want to give a second life.

We put together this guide specifically for customers like you, people who want to know exactly what is going to happen to their vehicle over the next 10 years as they drive it day to day or seasonally. We want you to feel confident, informed, and taken care of long after you leave our shop.

As we continue to grow, it is customers like you that help us learn and get better every single day. And no matter what comes up, whether it is something we do here at the shop or something outside our lane, we have plenty of recommendations and resources to point you in the right direction. Got a fender bender? Need some custom work done? Just ask. We are always here.

We are hoping we can continue to give you a 5-star experience, and if we have done that, we would love to hear about it. A Google review goes a long way for a small business like ours, and if you know anyone purchasing a new vehicle or have a vehicle that needs some love, we would be honored by the referral.

02

Window tint care

Tint is the easiest product on your vehicle to maintain. One rule carries almost all the risk: never let ammonia touch the film.

  • Keep all windows fully rolled up for a minimum of 48 hours after installation.
  • Do not touch or press on the glass from the inside.
  • Water bubbles or haziness under the film are completely normal. This is moisture from the installation process evaporating. It will disappear as the film cures.
  • In cold weather, curing takes longer. Allow additional time before rolling windows down.
Non-negotiable

Always use ammonia-free glass cleaner

Standard household glass cleaners such as Windex contain ammonia, which will break down and destroy window tint film over time. An ammonia-free product is required.

Approved products: XPEL Window Film Cleaner, Invisible Glass, SprayWay, or any product labeled safe for tinted windows. We carry approved products in our store.

  • Spray cleaner onto a clean, soft microfiber cloth. Never spray directly on the glass.
  • Wipe gently in straight lines. Avoid scrubbing or circular motions.
  • Never use abrasive pads, steel wool, or rough cloths on tinted windows.
  • Clean regularly to prevent buildup. Dust and grime can cause micro-scratches if left to accumulate.

Covered: film failure, meaning defects in the film itself

  • Bubbling, peeling, or delamination of the film, when not caused by impact or improper cleaning
  • Purple discoloration or significant fading due to manufacturing defect
  • Film separation from the glass without physical cause

Not covered

  • Scratches, chips, or damage caused by hard objects such as keys and rings
  • Damage from ammonia-based or abrasive cleaning products
  • Peeling or bubbling caused by rolling windows down before the film fully cured
  • Normal wear and tear or gradual fading over time
Cracked windshields

Physical damage is not covered

A cracked windshield is a perfect example of what the tint warranty does not cover. If a rock hits the windshield and cracks the glass, that is physical impact damage, not a film defect. The warranty covers situations where the film itself is failing.

Good news: if the windshield is replaced due to a crack, insurance may cover re-tinting the new glass as part of the claim. Raise it with the insurance provider when filing a glass claim.

Worth a phone call

PPF and window tint can be covered by auto insurance

Because Deluxe is an authorized XPEL dealer using professionally installed XPEL film, PPF and window tint are not simply considered aftermarket accessories by many carriers. They can fall under a comprehensive or collision policy.

  • If the vehicle is in an accident and PPF or tint is damaged, a claim may cover replacement.
  • Some carriers include it in a repair claim automatically. Others require a Custom Parts and Equipment (CPE) rider, usually only a few dollars per month.
  • Call the carrier and ask directly: is my paint protection film and window tint covered under my comprehensive and collision policy?

Deluxe provides documentation of the XPEL installation, including product details and receipts, to support any claim. Call 574-292-8966.

Time limit

Tell us within 7 days

Edges lifting, unusual bubbles that are not going away, or anything unexpected: contact us within 7 days of installation. After 30 days, a removal charge may apply to any re-do work.

Quality expectations

A tint job can only look as good as the car does. Tinting a vehicle with a dirty interior makes a perfect finish very difficult. The same goes for vehicles that have already been tinted once or several times. Each time a tint is removed and replaced, the likelihood for contamination or improper install grows significantly. Installers are limited to the quality of the glass and the job done before them. Certain vehicles require special installation techniques that allow more dust to potentially land on the film. Imagine hanging curtains on a window you cannot reach properly. Tint can be the same way. Deluxe Detail is committed to exceptional quality in all our services, and we do everything we can with the cards we have been dealt.

Industry standard

GlassAcceptable dust
Side doors1-3 tiny dots of dust
Quarter windows1-2 tiny dots of dust
Rear windshields3-4 tiny dots of dust. Defroster lines can be very difficult if tint was previously installed.
Front windshieldSeveral dots of dust. Windshield tint is prone to more contamination than any other window, with dust around edges and corners. The goal is an acceptable level of quality with no hairs, fuzzes, or large dots of dirt.
03

Ceramic coating care

XPEL Fusion Plus bonds at the molecular level to paint or PPF, delivering a hydrophobic, self-cleaning surface, deep gloss, UV protection, and resistance to chemical etching from bird droppings, bug acid, and environmental fallout.

Do not

No washing for 7 days

The coating needs this time to fully bond and cure. Water, chemicals, or physical contact during this window can compromise the coating and void the warranty.

  • Park indoors or in a covered area where possible during the first week.
  • Avoid parking under trees, which brings bird droppings and sap, during the cure period.
  • If something unavoidable lands on the paint, gently blot. Do not rub.
  • Do not apply wax, sealant, or any other product to the coated surface.

Technique is everything. Washing wrong creates swirl marks and scratches the coating. Follow these steps in order, every time.

  1. Rinse first. Power-wash or hose down the entire vehicle to blast off loose dirt and debris before touching it with anything. Start at the roof and work down. This step alone prevents a huge amount of scratching.
  2. Foam cannon. Apply foam soap to the entire exterior and let it dwell for 3-5 minutes. This lifts and softens contamination so it is not dragged across the paint.
  3. Wheels and tires first. Clean rims and tires with a dedicated wheel brush and separate bucket before touching the paint. Brake dust is corrosive and does not belong on a wash mitt.
  4. Bug removal. Use a dedicated bug-removal mitt or soft towel on bug splatter before scrubbing. Bugs are acidic and will smear if scrubbed with a regular mitt.
  5. Rinse and re-foam. Rinse off the initial foam layer, then apply a fresh coat of foam soap before hand washing begins.
  6. Wash top to bottom, one panel at a time. The most important step. Start at the roof and work down one full body panel at a time, for example the entire driver front fender from top to bottom in straight lines. Light pressure. Never scrub in circles.
  7. Save the bottom for last. Rocker panels, lower doors, and paint inside wheel wells are the dirtiest parts of the car. Washing these last keeps contamination off cleaner upper panels.
  8. Rinse thoroughly. Rinse top to bottom. No soap should remain in crevices, door jambs, or trim gaps.
  9. Dry immediately. Never let the vehicle air dry. Water spots can etch into the coating. Use an electric air blower or a clean, plush microfiber drying towel, working from the roof down.
  10. Apply a maintenance spray. After drying, apply XPEL Ceramic Boost or P&S Bead Maker to a clean microfiber towel and wipe down all painted surfaces. This refreshes the hydrophobic layer and adds shine. Both are available in our store.
Every wash

The two-bucket method

Two buckets: one with clean soapy water, one with plain rinse water. After each full panel, dunk the wash mitt in the rinse bucket and squeeze it out to release the dirt just picked up. Then load it up again from the soap bucket before moving to the next panel.

Skipping this drags dirt from one panel to the next and scratches paint on every pass. It is the number one cause of swirl marks.

Covered

  • Loss of hydrophobic, water-beading properties due to coating failure
  • Delamination or separation of the coating from the surface
  • Coating defects present from the time of application

Not covered

  • Damage from rock chips, physical impact, or road debris. PPF is the product for that protection.
  • Scratches from abrasive cleaning products or improper washing techniques
  • Chemical damage from non-approved products
  • Normal gradual reduction in hydrophobic performance over time without a manufacturing defect
  • Any coating applied by a non-certified installer
04

Paint protection film care

XPEL Ultimate Plus is a premium urethane film engineered to absorb rock chips, scratches, road debris, and environmental damage while staying virtually invisible. A self-healing top coat makes minor scratches disappear with heat.

Do not

No washing for 1 week

The adhesive needs this time to fully cure and bond to the paint. Washing, rubbing, or applying any product during this window can lift edges and compromise the installation.

  • Water bubbles or haziness beneath the film in the first few days are normal. They disappear as the adhesive cures.
  • Avoid any pressure on film edges during the first week.
  • Stay away from automatic car washes indefinitely. Rotating brushes scratch and lift PPF edges.
  • Drive normally during the first 2 weeks. Movement and temperature cycling help the film conform and cure.
Required

2-week check-up appointment

A check-up is required 2 weeks after installation so we can inspect edge adhesion, check for lifting, and address anything before it becomes a larger issue. Drive the vehicle regularly during this period to assist with curing.

Call 574-292-8966 to book the 2-week appointment.

PPF follows the same hand wash process as ceramic coating: top to bottom, panel by panel, two-bucket method. A few PPF-specific notes.

  • Hand wash only. No automatic brush car washes, ever.
  • Touchless car washes are acceptable between hand washes.
  • Use pH-neutral shampoo and a clean microfiber wash mitt.
  • Wash every 2-3 weeks or approximately every 600 miles.
  • Dry immediately with a blower or plush microfiber towel. Never air dry.
  • Remove bird droppings, bug splatter, and tree sap as quickly as possible.
  • Apply XPEL Ceramic Boost or P&S Bead Maker after each wash to maintain hydrophobic properties.
  • Keep pressure washer tips at least 3 feet from PPF edges to prevent lifting.

Self-healing technology

Light scratches and swirl marks from normal washing or minor abrasion disappear on their own with heat, either from sunlight or by pouring warm, not boiling, water over the affected area. Deeper cuts or gouges into the film will not self-heal and may require section replacement.

PPF and insurance

XPEL PPF may be covered under an auto insurance policy when installed by a certified dealer like Deluxe. After an accident or covered damage, contact the carrier and mention the professionally installed XPEL PPF. We provide documentation to support the claim.

Required for warranty

Annual inspection

The PPF warranty requires an annual inspection with Deluxe. We check edge adhesion, film clarity, signs of early yellowing, areas of heavy impact or wear, and overall film performance. Missing annual inspections can void the XPEL PPF warranty.

05

Your PPF over time

XPEL Ultimate Plus is backed by a 10-year warranty. Here is what each stage looks like when the film is properly maintained.

Year 1

Cure, settle, and establish the routine

  • Film is fully cured and adhered after about 30 days. No more bubbles or haze.
  • Self-healing is most active and responsive during the first year.
  • The 2-week check-up with Deluxe is required. Call to schedule if it has not happened yet.
  • Establish a hand wash routine every 2 weeks using the two-bucket method.
  • Schedule at least 2 Reset Washes with Deluxe within the first year.
  • Annual inspection is due at the 12-month mark, required for warranty validity.
  • Film edges may visually settle as the adhesive bonds to contours. This is normal.
  • If ceramic coating was applied over PPF, the coating is protecting the film surface now.
  • Hydrophobic water beading should be very strong. Water will sheet and bead aggressively.
  • Minor rock chips should be absorbed without reaching the paint underneath.
Year 2

Peak protection

  • Adhesive is fully cured and the film performs at its highest level.
  • Self-healing remains strong for light scratches and swirl marks.
  • Continue washing every 2 weeks with pH-neutral shampoo and the two-bucket method.
  • Complete the annual inspection with Deluxe to keep the warranty in force.
  • Schedule 2 Reset Washes this year to remove iron fallout and embedded contamination.
  • With Fusion Plus Standard ceramic, this is the halfway point of its 4-year warranty. Watch beading and apply Ceramic Boost or P&S Bead Maker after every wash.
  • Inspect edges during each wash for early lifting. Contact us immediately if anything is peeling.
  • Film remains crystal clear with no yellowing expected under normal conditions.
  • Heavy rock chip zones such as the hood and front bumper may show evidence of absorbed impacts. The film is doing its job. The paint underneath is protected.
Years 4-5

Mid-life assessment and coating renewal

  • Fusion Plus Standard ceramic warranty expires at 4 years. Evaluate hydrophobic performance. If water is no longer beading well, it is time to reapply.
  • Schedule a ceramic coating reapplication with Deluxe to restore full hydrophobic protection over the PPF.
  • With Fusion Plus Premium, this is the halfway point. The annual LITE top-off keeps the warranty active.
  • PPF is approaching the midpoint of its 10-year life and should be performing excellently with no yellowing.
  • Self-healing is still active but may respond more slowly on older film. Warm water acceleration is recommended for minor scratches.
  • Continue annual inspections and 2 Reset Washes per year without exception.
  • Areas with the most rock chip absorption, hood and front bumper, should be carefully inspected. Individual sections can be replaced without redoing the whole car.
  • Avoid any abrasive polishing, buffing, or compound treatments on the film.
  • Document all service visits and keep receipts. This supports any warranty claim.
Years 8-10

End of warranty lifecycle, evaluate and plan

  • The PPF is approaching or at the end of its 10-year warranty period.
  • Film that has been properly maintained will often still be performing well at this stage.
  • Schedule a comprehensive assessment with Deluxe. We inspect the full film for yellowing, edge adhesion, clarity, and impact absorption capacity.
  • Areas with heavy rock chip accumulation may show film fatigue. The film has absorbed years of road debris protecting the paint underneath.
  • Proactive full or partial film replacement now is the best way to maintain paint and appearance value going forward.
  • Warranty claims for yellowing, cracking, blistering, or delamination must be submitted before the expiration date. Contact us to file.
  • Film removal and reapplication is a clean process when done by a certified installer. The paint underneath should be pristine.
  • Consider a full detail, paint correction if needed, and a fresh PPF and ceramic coating installation.
  • Resale value of a vehicle with properly maintained and replaced PPF is significantly higher than unprotected vehicles at this age.
  • PPF and ceramic coating can be claimed through insurance if damage occurred during the coverage period. Reach out for documentation support.

Emergency contaminant guide

Save this section to your phone. The longer a contaminant sits, the more damage it causes.

Act now

Bird droppings, bug acid, hard water spots, and tree sap

These are acidic and will etch through even ceramic coating if left to dry. Never let any of them sit on paint.

Method: spray XPEL SiO2 Waterless Wash or P&S Detailer onto a microfiber towel. Blot and lift. Never rub. For tree sap and tar, use a 50/50 mix of water and isopropyl alcohol applied to the towel first, then wipe gently.

Never use aggressive solvents, nail polish remover, or household cleaners.

ContaminantWhat to doWhat not to do
Bird droppingsBlot immediately with XPEL SiO2 Waterless Wash or P&S Swift Detailer on microfiber. Do not let it dry.Never rub dry. Do not use household cleaners.
Bug splatterUse XPEL Bug Remover or a warm water soak, then wipe gently with microfiber. P&S Bug Off works well.Do not scrub dry. Do not use an abrasive mitt.
Tree sap50/50 water and isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber towel. Apply to the towel first, then blot.Do not use nail polish remover or acetone.
Tar and road grimeUse a dedicated tar remover safe for PPF. Apply to the towel, not directly to the film.Do not scrape. Do not use petroleum products.
Hard water spotsUse XPEL Water Spot Remover or isopropyl on a microfiber. Work in small sections. Remove immediately.Never park next to sprinklers or irrigation systems. Never let hard water sit on PPF.
Fuel spillsRinse with water immediately, then wash normally with pH-neutral shampoo.Do not leave fuel on the surface. Even brief contact can harm film.

07

Questions and situations

A five-minute phone call before another shop touches the vehicle can prevent damaged film, compromised paint, and unnecessary replacement costs.

Yes, but the mounting area needs proper preparation first. Ceramic coatings create an extremely slick, hydrophobic surface, so adhesive tape may not bond directly over a coated surface. Before installing an adhesive-mounted accessory, the mounting area should be cleaned and prepared with isopropyl alcohol to remove oils and residue and, when necessary, the coating from the bonding area. When the accessory mounts over PPF or ceramic coating, contact Deluxe before installation so we can determine the right preparation.

No. The XPEL window film warranty covers failure of the film itself, not replacement caused by broken or damaged glass. Auto insurance may pay to replace the window tint along with the damaged glass. When filing the claim, tell the insurance company that the damaged glass had professionally installed XPEL window film and ask that reinstallation be included in the repair. Call Deluxe before the repair if possible. We provide receipts and installation documentation.

The same rule applies. The XPEL warranty does not cover film lost because the glass was physically broken. Auto insurance may cover replacement of the window film as part of a glass, vandalism, comprehensive, or collision claim depending on the policy. Contact Deluxe and we will help provide documentation for the claim.

Call Deluxe before the body shop removes the film or begins paint work whenever possible. PPF removal needs to be performed correctly. Removing film improperly, especially from a panel that has been previously repainted or has compromised paint, can create a risk of lifting clear coat or paint. Ask us where to take the vehicle for paint and body work. We can point toward repair facilities we trust, then reinstall the PPF and ceramic coating after repairs and provide documentation for the insurance claim.

We recommend contacting Deluxe first. PPF removal requires controlled heat, technique, and an understanding of the condition of the paint underneath. There is always some risk when removing adhesive film, particularly from repainted, repaired, poorly bonded, or compromised paint. If a collision shop needs film removed for a repair, have them contact us. Whenever practical, we would rather remove the film correctly before the vehicle is painted.

XPEL ceramic window film is designed to be signal-friendly and does not use the metallic construction traditionally associated with signal interference. Factory glass can matter. Certain manufacturers use laminated, coated, heated, infrared-reflective, or otherwise specialized glass that can weaken the signal used by some toll transponders. If an E-ZPass or another toll transponder has trouble reading, the glass construction or transponder location may be the issue. Some vehicles have a designated windshield area for toll tags and RF devices. Check the owner manual or contact Deluxe.

Properly installed XPEL ceramic window film should not interfere with normal vehicle electronics, GPS, Bluetooth, cellular connectivity, or driver-assistance systems simply because it is installed on the glass. Modern vehicles can have cameras, sensors, antennas, and other electronics positioned around the windshield and glass. That is one reason professional installation matters. We identify sensitive equipment and install film appropriately around factory systems. For specialized glass, a heads-up display, a camera system, an antenna, or other unusual technology, ask us before installation.

Absolutely. Before body work, paintless dent repair, accessory installation, windshield replacement, badge replacement, vinyl installation, polishing, buffing, or other exterior work, tell the technician the vehicle has PPF and/or ceramic coating. Some normal repair procedures can damage film or remove ceramic coating. When in doubt, call Deluxe first.

No matches for that term. Try a different word, or call us at 574-292-8966 and we will answer it directly.

Village Car Wash

E Front St, Buchanan, MI
Self-serve bays Open 24 hours

Budget self-serve bays. Dry the vehicle immediately after rinsing here, since standing water on the paint is what leaves spots.

Self-serve bays

Skip the foam brush

The soft-looking brush hanging in every self-serve bay is the one thing to avoid. It is shared by every vehicle that came before yours and holds grit, brake dust, and sand. Dragging it across PPF or ceramic coating causes the exact swirl marks the coating exists to prevent.

Use the high-pressure soap and the spot-free rinse only, then dry immediately with your own microfiber or blower.

Safety and security

Reinforced glass

Thicker films that help hold broken glass fragments together after impact and can help delay forced entry. Security film is not a replacement for locks or alarms, though it is an important part of a layered security plan.

Specialty

Anti-graffiti and bird-safe

The VISION lineup extends beyond traditional tint with anti-graffiti films, bird-safe film, exterior-applied solutions, and other purpose-specific products, so the film matches the problem being solved.

Architectural glass is not one-size-fits-all. Film selection depends on existing glass construction, pane configuration, coatings, and the goal of the project. MGP selects the appropriate film and provides the applicable XPEL warranty information and installation documentation.
